Presents
Dennis Debbaudt
Autism Risk and Safety Management
Training for Law Enforcement, First Responders, Parents, Educators, and Professionals
Wednesday, October 6th, 2010
Research indicates that persons with developmental disabilities, including a rapidly rising autism population, are approximately seven times more likely to come in contact with law enforcement and professionals than others. Police and first response professionals will meet children and adults with autism in field situations. Dennis Debbaudt’s training will make these interactions safer and less stressful.
Dennis, the proud father of Brad, a young man who has autism, wrote the ground-breaking booklet Avoiding Unfortunate Situations in 1994, the first-ever look at the interactions between children and adults with autism and law enforcement professionals. He has since written frequently on the topic including the book "Autism, Advocates and Law Enforcement Professionals: Recognizing and Reducing Risk Situations for People with Autism Spectrum Disorders" and articles for the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin and Sheriff Magazine. He consulted to ABC News 20/20 for the segment, *A Simple Man*, about autism and false confession, and was instrumental in the development of the state of Maryland's Police and Correctional Training Commissions 1999 curriculum " Why Law Enforcement Needs to Recognize Autism". A professional investigator and journalist for 27 years, Dennis turned his attention to providing autism recognition response and risk management training to law enforcement and emergency first responders in 1991.
He presents to law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. His materials are in use by police departments around the world.
A Detroit native, he now resides with his wife, Gay, and son, Brad, in South Florida.

The Matthew Reardon Center for Autism
Welcome to The Matthew Reardon Center for Autism, Inc. We diligently seek to meet the educational and therapeutic needs of children and youth diagnosed with neurological disorders with related communication delays. We offer a variety of programs designed to address these challenges and help these children reach their full potential.
Neurological disorders may be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. Our approach of providing these children with a full range of educational and therapeutic services is designed to ensure that each child receives the individualized attention his/her situation requires in order to equip and enable lifelong success. History bears out the fact that without this multi-disciplinary approach to treat and educate the child, lifelong success is often unattainable.
It is the mission of The Matthew Reardon Center for Autism to improve the quality of life for these children and their families. We are driven by the determination to assist a population historically under-served and hope that through our efforts more families with special-needs children will feel less isolated and more hopeful for the future of their children.
